BIOGRAPHY
Jasna Barisic is a Croatian visual fine art artist born in Split with her studio in Zadar. She received a degree in Structural Engeenering from Zagreb University.
Since 2000, she has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries in Croatia, Italy, France, USA, Greece, Austria and Jordan.
Her works are in several public and private art collections such as the Kasinski collection, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Jasna Barisic represented the Republic of Croatia at the International Biennale of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy in 2003, at the Art festival in Chania, Greece in 2003 at the United Nations Building in New York within the CA project Connecting People, Connecting Cultures in 2006, and the Jordan Art festival in Amman in 2009 at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Jordan.
She was chosen for art residencies, International Biennal Mediteran, in Trogir in 2008 and Art & Science International Festival, in Patras in 2010.
Major solo exhibitions of her work have been held in gallery Cekao, in Zagreb, gallery of Croatian Association of visual artists Split, Dioklecian’s cellars, in Split, and City lodge, exhibition pavilion of National Museum Zadar, in Zadar.
In her work, she focuses on materials and processes, exploring movements of the surface.
Recently, Jasna has used recycled paper in her paintings, as an ‘inexpensive’ art material which diverts attention from the not entirely explicit content to the endeavor of creating something beautiful out of the inexpensive. Her paintings therefore boast rich textures which emphasize the material aspect of each particular canvas and often employ ‘bad’ or rejected materials. Hence, the majority of Jasna’s canvases may also be observed as an arrangement of form and color, as well as a landscape.
She is a founding member of ConnectingArt, a group of international artists.
She is a member of the Croatian Association of Artists Split and the Croatian Association of Artists Zadar, a prominent organisations dedicated to promoting excellence in the profession of Croatian visual artists.
She lives and works in Zadar, Croatia.
